James took a post as the organist and music director of the church, and it was while he worked in the church that he wrote and set to music a reminiscence of his New England Christmases.
The words and music were written in 1857 by James Pierpont for a Thanksgiving program at his church in Boston.
Katherine Kenicott Davis, 1892-1980, was born in Saint Joseph, Missouri and settled in Concord, Massachusetts.

In 1816 the Music Society of Styria established a school for voice - the first of its kind in Austria - and in 1920 this school, which in the interim provided instruction in all instruments, became a fully accredited conservatory.
In 1963 this institution was granted the status of an academy and renamed the Academy of Music and Drama, and in 1970 it achieved a legal status comparable to that of other Austrian universities and was renamed the University of Music and Drama in Graz.
A degree programme in music education has existed at this institution since 1973, and since 1984 all graduates of Austrian university-level institutions in the arts have received degrees upon the completion of their studies.

 Theodore M. Finney Music Manuscript Collection
He taught at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, from 1925 to 1932 and was supervisor of music for the public schools in Council Bluffs, Iowa, from 1933 to 1936; during that time he was also a lecturer at the Smith College Summer School.
From 1936 to 1968 he was professor and head of the music department at the University of Pittsburgh.
The collection consists of 53 bound volumes and 3 document cases of music manuscripts, primarily English, Italian, French, and German, dating from around 1700 to the middle of the 19th century.

This simple arrangement, published in 1816 by Carr's Music Store in Baltimore, is the earliest appearance in print of “The Star-Spangled Banner” set to the tune “To Anacreon in Heaven,” which is now our national anthem.
Until “The Star-Spangled Banner” was designated the official national anthem in 1931, the United States had a second national anthem called “Hail Columbia.” The music for “Hail Columbia” came from The President's March, written by Philip Pfeil (or Phile) to commemorate Washington's inauguration.

 Music for an Old Fashioned Christmas 2004
This program of interesting and unique arrangements of music of the season will be introduced by oboist Michael Laird, who offers some interesting history.
The orchestra will be conducted by Thomas Ludwig, who in 1996 founded the Ludwig Symphony Orchestra, dedicated to helping the careers of young musicians and soloists from around the world.
The program is a wonderful array of Christmas music including selections from the Messiah, traditional Christmas carols and arrangements for band and chorus of popular Christmas songs, including selections from the movie "White Christmas".
