The Sumbwa Nyamwezi began trading for copper directly from the Katanga and became known as the Yeke.
Their leader Msiri used firearms to dominate his neighbors, taking captives to carry ivory and copper to Unyamwezi, which between 1861 and 1875 was dominated by Swahili-Arabs.
In 1817 Cape Town governor Charles Somerset visited the east and asked chief Ngqika (Gaika) to stop the Xhosa stealing, but by the end of the year a force was sent to make Ndlambe comply.

In 1817 several Oyo chiefs, led by Afonja of Ilorin, sent an empty calabash to Aole, the king of Oyo, signifying that they would no longer pay tribute.
By the end of Radama's short reign (1810-28), two thirds of Madagascar was under Merina control, the exceptions being the southern coastal region, which is the most barren part of the island, and the Boina kingdom in the northwest.
Between 1817 and 1828, a series of expeditions across the Arabian sea reestablished Omani rule over most of the Swahili coast, from Warsheikh in Somalia to Lindi in southern Tanzania.

Simultaneously, the mineral-rich Katanga province in the southeast, led by Moïse Tshombe, seceded with Belgian assistance.
On 14 September 1960 both leaders were overthrown by army chief of staff Joseph Désiré Mobutu (who later renamed himself Mobutu Sese Seko and the country Zaïre), who placed Lumumba under house arrest.
A fervent, though often imprudent, nationalist, Lumumba was declared a national hero and martyr in 1966, and he continues to serve as an inspiration for African nationalists and leftists.

There are many points of interest, which starts with provisional lightcurves made by Raoul BEHREND, and much work done on 9117 Aude also.
Of note are the good aggreement in the UMu measures with the lightcurves of 9117 Aude and 1817 Katanga, in which both visual and UMr seem to do and excellent job confirming each other.

They maintained a state of considerable size, often referred to as an Empire, into early modern times.
The Lunda Kingdom which exercised paramount chieftaincy over many local Lunda septs was centered at Kapanga, in northwestern Katanga province of the Congo, quite close to the modern Angolan border.
