  Dulwich Picture Gallery
It was the world's first purpose-built art gallery and opened in 1817.
Its basic architecture of a series of interlinked rooms lit by overhead skylights has been the primary influence on art gallery design ever since.
It was founded by a bequest from Sir Francis Bourgeois, who on his death in 1811 bequeathed his collection of art to Dulwich College together with £2,000 for the building of a gallery to house them in.

Armenian Architecture - VirtualANI - Travellers Accounts Of Ani: Ker Porter
The military power of the city, as far as fortifications could render it formidable, must have been very great; for the ravine which I mentioned before, as one means of defence, was additionally strengthened with walls, and towers of different heights.
It is very close-grained, and susceptible of being cut into the most delicate combinations without difficulty or splintering, till it is exposed to the air; and then, while it becomes too hard for such work, it acquires a solidity and a surface which resists every destroying effect from the changes of the weather.
Their architecture is of the same style and period as the churches in Anni; and it is curious to observe, that though its palaces are sunk in the dust, or abandoned by their conquerors, a remnant of the faith of its ancient kings still exists where it was planted.

 Gothic Architecture in England
Gothic architecture in England, from the Norman, to the Early English, Decorated, and Perpendicular Gothic styles.
The original style of building - one might call it a philosophy of architecture - sprang up in the Ile de France, and was known during the Middle Ages as "the French Style".
It was not until the 16th century that art critic Giorgio Vassari derisively compared medieval architecture to the barbarism (and presumed lack of taste) of the Goths who had ravaged Rome.

A project dear to his heart both academically and architecturally, Jefferson's "academic village" (his own phrase) purposefully exhibited a selected variety of Roman orders.
Groups of porticoed houses are linked by colonnades in a formal plan, culminating in the great Pantheon-like rotunda at the end of the oblong composition.
Along with his own house at Monticello, the University campus is recognized as Jefferson's greatest architectural achievement.

An Investigation Of The Principles Of Athenian Architecture Or The Results Of A Survey Conducted Chiefly With Reference To The Optical Refinements Exhibited In The Construction Of The Ancient Buildings At Athens...New And Enlarged Edition Published - PENROSE, FRANCIS CRANMER [1817-1903].
When in 1878 Pennethorne brought out his Geometry and Optics of Ancient Architecture he adopted with due acknowledgment Penrose's mass of indisputable material.Penrose's exhaustive and minutely accurate measurements finally established that what is apparently parallel or straight in Greek architecture of the best period is generally neither straight nor parallel but curved or inclined.
He solved the puzzle which all Vitruvius's commentators had found insoluble by identifying the 'scamilli impares' with those top and bottom blocks of the columns which, by virtue of the inclination of the column or the curvature of stylobate and architrave, are 'unequal' (i.e.
