The traditional vernacular style of architecture in Dubai is the result of a mixture of three dominant factors: the climate (hot and humid), the religion and customs of its people, and the locally available building materials.
The effect of religion and custom on the vernacular architecture of Dubai is another reason why the rooms of the house generally opened into the courtyard, leaving the exterior walls with very few, if any, openings, except some ventilation holes high up in the wall, as Islamic teaching promotes privacy and modesty.
The windtowers (barajils) were the most distinctive architectural element of the houses in the early twentieth century.

 Newport, Salop, 1822
1822: A MARKET town, in Shropshire, situated on the borders of Staffordshire, in the hundred of Bradford, 139 miles north-west from London.
This water is conveyed into five large cisterns, placed in different parts of the town, four of which have recently been newly erected and beautified, under the direction of the high steward, bailiffs, and burgesses, at a considerable expense, and are rendered a great ornament as well as convenience to the town and its inhabitants.
The style of architecture demonstrates the great antiquity of the church, which was formerly collegiate, but is now within the diocese and under the jurisdiction of the Bishop of Lichfield and Coventry.

 Kingston Architecture: Chronology
The cornerstone of the present St George's Anglican Cathedral is laid on King St E. at Johnson St. This is the first known architectural commission for Thomas Rogers (1778/82-1853).
His design is altered c1840 when the front of the church is rebuilt and a new bell tower installed by architect William Coverdale (1801-65); this work is in turn altered by an enlargement of the structure in 1891 by Power and Son.
The architectural firm of Power and Son is formed (see also the entry for 1846).

After considerable effort, he convinced his neighbors Brady and Hogans to join him in donating land for the streets.
In June, 1822, surveyor David S. Miller laid out the streets of the town, which included a twenty-block area bounded by Ocean, Catherine, and Duval Streets and the river.

Francis Frith was born at Chesterfield, Derbyshire, England in 1822 to a Quaker family.
Other books, such as Egypt, Sinai, and Jerusalem and Egypt, Nubia, and Ethiopia were authored by historians who explain the symbolic significance of the architecture and hieroglyphs pictured in Frith’s views.
