1823 Report - Am. Soc. for Meliorating Cond. of Jews
During the first months of 1823, a committee of the society was shopping about for a suitable location in western New York, at which to establish Boudinot's planned colony for the Christianized Jews.
Those sources mention the "Genesee country," while the 1823 Report is a bit more specific, speaking of a spot "easily accessible on the streams of nature or of art" in the "Holland Purchase" (roughly, the land between the Genesee and Niagara rivers).
Before 1823 ended they apparently had given up in their quest to locate a suitable site in western New York and were focusing their attention on making a purchase closer to Albany or even New York City itself.

We have estimated the magnitude of all earthquakes for which seismograms or published amplitudes exist, which is more than 80 percent of the earthquakes we cataloged.
This portion of the catalog is probably finalized, but the sensitivity to just a few descriptions means new sources could alter the locations and magnitudes.

Emigration From Cork Ireland to Upper Canada, 1823
The "last straw" was the introduction of the Composition Act, 1823 which required the payment of tithes in cash rather than in kind.
The tithes were a form of tax which supported the Church of Ireland (Anglican) clergy and were collected from everyone including poor, mostly Catholic, tenant farmers.
