In 1826 Leopoldo Nobili obtained colors of interference on metallic surfaces through electrochemical oxidation and studied them and technique to obtain them not only for scientific reasons but also for «the advantages that these colors and new technique of coloring metals may lend to the arts».
Leopoldo Nobili invented the 'metallocromia' in Reggio Emilia in 1826.
Nobili's generative art is obviously of the analogic type since it exploits a natural phenomenon to create forms, while normally today generative art is numerical because it resorts to the virtual spaces and the behavioral codes that computers and software put at our disposal.

The drapery of the flag is admirably done, although the blue and white stars section is almost obscured in shadow near her head under the ominous eagle who in fact has the end of the flag in his talons and has apparently flown around her to drop her quite voluptuous body.

The concept of the Art Union, where outstanding works of art from an annual exhibition were purchased by a panel of experts and distributed by lot amongst the subscribers, had already been put into operation in London and in other British cities.
Art Unions in other cities had attracted subscribers with the promise of an engraving each year, in addition to the possibility of winning a painting by lottery.
In mid-August, the Examiner's Fine Art column was dominated with the news of the arrival in Dublin of John Hogan's statue of Thomas Drummond, which was erected on a pedestal in the Royal Exchange.

The artist initiated his study of art in 1844, when he became the first pupil to study with the noted Hudson River School painter Thomas Cole.
A year later, at the age of eighteen, two of his landscapes were accepted for inclusion in the spring exhibition at the National Academy of Design; in 1846 two more of his works were shown there.
These latter pictures are examples of history painting, the genre of art that represented real or imagined narrative scenes from history, mythology, religion or great literature.

Works of art include Thomas Cole's Last of the Mohicans (1827), the first Cole to be shown in the United States, and to establish a new standard and genre for American art.
Prior to 1826, the demand for art in the emerging nation had focused on portraiture, which almost always required payment in advance of its execution, thereby proving financially feasible for the struggling artist.
By the 1840s, the Academy's Annuals were the most important venues for the exhibition of art in the United States, and by the 1850s; the Academy's exhibition openings were among the major events of New York's social season.

 Thomas Cole
Thomas Cole is often called the "Father of the Hudson River School of Art." In 1826 he helped to found the National Academy of Design in New York City.
Dubbed the Founder of the Hudson River School, Cole was apprenticed to a calico designer and wood engraver in England before he came to the United States with his family in 1818.
The rest of his life he spent much of his time sketching from nature in the Catskills, White Mountains, Adirondacks, and the coast of Maine.
