1830 US Census, Madawaska Settlement, Penobscot Co. Maine & York Co. New Brunswick: Transcriptions
The Fifth Census of the United States, undertaken in 1830, was a head of household census; that is, it recorded the name only of the heads of families; the rest of the information was recorded in terms of numbers of people within households, without names.
Indeed, a useful and interesting comparison can be made between the 1830 US census and the 1831 Deane and Kavanagh survey undertaken by the State of Maine, which also covered both sides of the upper St.John River.
It is also very useful in conjunction with the 1830 census to establish the geographical location of people in the census, to establish names (the 1831 survey was much more accurate in its spelling of French names), and approximate dates of settlement.

 Belgium: The 1830 Honour flags
The 1830 Honour flags are described by Roger Harmignies, President of the Heraldry and Vexillology Council of the French-Speaking Community in Belgium, in: Belgique : Les drapeaux d'honneur de 1830, Vexillacta [vxl] #3 (March 1999), pp.
The horizontal arrangement of the stripes of the flag seems odd, since a Decree of 23 January 1831, augmented by Instructions of the Department of Navy on 15 September and Department of Interior on 12 October had stated that the stripes of the Belgian national flag should be placed vertically.
It is evident, however, that the horizontal arrangement of the stripes of the honour flag was a tribute to the first emblems of the revolutionary days of August 1830, which had horizontal stripes.

1830 Census of Population and Housing
Prior to the passage of the census act authorizing the fifth census in 1830, President Adams, in his fourth address to the U.S. Congress on December 28, 1828, suggested the census commence earlier in the year than August 1.
He also proposed that the collection of age data should be extended from infancy, in intervals of 10 years, to the “utmost boundaries of life”.
As in the previous census, the enumeration was made by an actual inquiry by the marshals or assistants at every dwelling house, or, as the law stated, by “personal” inquiry of the head of every family, and began on June 1 (instead of the first Monday of August as in previous censuses).

Journal of Social History: Time and Work in England: 1750-1830 - Book Review
Working hours in London extended from about 6:50 to 18:48 in 1750 and from 7:50 to 19:05 in 1830 while over the same two periods in the north working hours were from 6:10 to 19:00 and 6:03 to 20:00 (though in both cases there were large variations).
While workdays decreased in London by an hour and increased in the North by about an hour, some of this difference may be explained by the decline in the work time of the London self-employed and elites while wage earners' hours remained static over the 80 years.
The dramatic transformation since 1830 (beyond his study) is not merely captured in the 12 fold increase in real per capita income, but in the 50% decrease in annual work time.
