	Department of Archaeology and Classical Studies
		The new Department of Archaeology and Classical Studies was created through a merger of two departments, the Department of Archaeology and the Department of Classical Archaeology and Ancient History.
		Archaeology, previously “Comparative Archaeology”, is the oldest discipline, as Oscar Montelius was already lecturing in this field in 1887—1893 at Stockholm University College (later to become Stockholm University) and it was established as a discipline in its own right in 1917.
		Classical Archaeology and Ancient History was established in 1948, through grants collected to commemorate the birth of the Swedish author Viktor Rydberg.

		It was not until 1833 that an act was passed giving freedom to all slaves in the British empire.

		Seventeen round housepit depressions measuring from 10 to 25 feet in diameter are adjacent to a large, deep, rectangular earthen structure.
		Large structures such as this one are nearly unheard of in California archaeology.
		The Rock Shelter, named after Zenas Leonard, a member of the famed 1833 Walker Expedition, is formed by a massive geological limestone dike of Jurassic age that outcrops and forms the rear wall of the shelter.

	Harpers Ferry Archaeology, Excavation Tour
		This map indicates the location of the 1833 Church building's east and west facades with dashed lines; the solid lines show the "footprint" of the current Church, built in 1896.
		This lack of undisturbed, compacted soil most likely is the result of later landscaping and construction changes, and associated digging-up of the grounds, which obliterated the original footprints of this bell tower.

	Tees Archaeology - Saxon Monastery, Hartlepool
		In 657 land was given to Hild to found a monastery at Whitby, and although she retained control of Hartlepool, both church and royal attention moved there with her.
		Hartlepool is one of the most extensively explored of the Northumbrian monasteries of the 7th to 8th Centuries, with significant finds continuing to be made in the town today.
		However, excavations by Tees Archaeology on the Friarage Field in July 2003 discovered the remains of Saxon buildings, pits and fences further east than previously thought.

		The skeletal remains found in a cave on the island of Flores, Indonesia, reported in 2004, do not represent a new species as then claimed, but some of the ancestors of modern human pygmies who live on the island today, according to an international scientific team.

	Archaeology around Knutsford
		In 1841 the footprints of 'Chirotherium Aff Storetonense' (to give it its full name) were dug out of the 'Keuper Waterstones', now known as the 'Tarporley Siltstone Formation', at the quarries in Lymm.
		They had also been found in Germany in 1833, Birkenhead in 1838, Liverpool in 1840 and were then found at Runcorn in 1843 and continued to be found in Lymm right up to 1900.
