	Somerset House Hosts 'Bejewelled by Tiffany 1837-1987' \| Art Knowledge News
		Among the pieces to be shown is a brooch set with diamonds and a large pink kunzite, the stone named in honor of Kunz in 1902.
		An opulent Art Nouveau-style bracelet designed around 1900 set with a combination of amethysts, sinhalites, garnets, aquamarines and tourmalines is a splendid example of an original combination of stones.
		Tiffany designers and craftsmen transformed these functional objects into tiny works of art of the greatest beauty, often of extraordinary originality, which make them some of the most memorable items in the show, exemplified by the bonbonnière made of gold, platinum and sapphires exhibited by Tiffany at the 1889 Paris Exposition.

	Russian art
		For centuries Russian art was dominated by an unchanging tradition of church art inherited from Byzantium, responding slowly and hesitantly to Western influences.
		Russian art was dominated by the Orthodox Church which drew on the traditions of Byzantine art, producing outstanding icons, carvings, metalwork, and embroidery.
		A new style in icon art was inaugurated by the Straganov School in the late 16th century, the masters of which produced highly elaborate icons, mostly miniatures, while the 17th century saw the decline of the art into mere virtuosity.

		Brown studied art from 1837 to 1839 in Bruges and Antwerp, Belgium.
		His importance as both a designer and propagandist for the arts cannot easily be overestimated, and his influence has continued to be felt throughout the 20th century.
		He was a committed Socialist whose aim was that, as in the Middle Ages, art should be for the people and by the people, a view expressed in several of his writings.

	Welcome to the Department of Art History at The University of Auckland, New Zealand.
		Focusing on the art of the Renaissance, we will look at the inclusion of landscapes as a requirement of the subject matter of works, how they are used compositionally and how they often set a mood for a painting.

	Edward Gay (1837-1928) - Fine Art Dealers Association
		Born in Ireland in 1837, Gay came to America with his parents in 1848 in the wake of the Potato Famine.
		He had to go to work as a boy, but showed a talent for drawing.

		The rosewood is a deep reddish brown and the pot has been fashioned from a single piece of wood with the traditional round plug in the bottom, which seems to be the original plug.

		Thomas Moran apprenticed to a Philadelphia wood engraving firm, but by 1858 at the age of twenty-one, he had exhibited an oil painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
		Encouraged by the marine painter, James Hamilton, Moran traveled to London in 1861, where he was deeply impressed by the dynamic effects and glowing color of J. Turner.
		The Grand Canyon of the Colorado (1892, Philadelphia Museum of Art) was finished by the end of August and lithographed by the Santa Fe Railroad as a promotional piece.
