It is possible that this was an early use of bottom sprung Perinet piston valves on a transitional instrument - between a valveless natural horn and a conventional valved french horn.
Perinet patented his piston valve designs in the late 1830s and early 1840s.
This horn sports a lyre holder, so it may have been used as a marching instrument.

After WW1, few bore rifles were manufactured and many of the European sporting arms manufacturers went out of business or concentrated on less powerful, small bore hunting rifles.
Most shotgun manufacturers were happy to build their guns with a smooth bore for sporting uses, or for Police & Military Riot/Trench Gun duty.
Sporting guns usually were made with a choke of various constrictions for different types of bird or deer hunting with shot loads - not for heavy ball or slugs.
