  Chronology of Science in the United States 1840-1849
The National Institution for the Promotion of Science was founded in Washington, as a successor to the Columbian Institute, with Secretary of War Joel R. Poinsett taking the lead.
In 1841, it was given responsibility by the U.S. Navy for the collections of the Wilkes Expedition, but by about 1843 this was taken away.
The Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia received a bird collection of 10,000 European specimens from Thomas B. Wilson (1807-1865), leading to the claim that it was the best ornithological collection in the world.

Having extensively read about these two accomplished and highly recognized explorers and having traveled the area where Stanley set out to search for Livingstone, I was both excited and anxious to read Mr.
Unless they want to pay several hundred dollars(or more)for an old used copy, then they should not be so critical of a good effort to present this old classic to modern readers in a relatively inexpensive form...
For that alone, it would merit recognition, but it is also a well-written, fascinating history of the North Atlantic Blockading Squadron.

The Einstein/MMC Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) coordinates the diverse research activities at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (Einstein) and Montefiore Medical Center (MMC) that involve hundreds of investigators working with over 40 NIH-funded faculty members from a broad range of basic and clinical departments.
The Einstein/MMC CFAR also supports these activities by providing Basic Science and Clinical Core services to these researchers.
