	New Georgia Encyclopedia: Charles Rinaldo Floyd (1797-1845)
		Floyd stayed at Fairfield most of the time, and it was there that he contracted a severe case of bilious fever in the spring of 1845; he died on March 22.
		Floyd's family followed his wishes that he be buried, wrapped in an American flag, under a large "sentinel" pine tree in his backyard at Fairfield.
		After the funeral, one of his descendants reported, "a new pathway was made in the garden, leading to the pine.

	New Georgia Encyclopedia: Charles Crisp (1845-1896)
		Crisp County, created in south Georgia in 1905, was named for him.
		Charles Frederick Crisp was born in Sheffield, England, on January 29, 1845, to actors Eliza and William Crisp.
		The Crisps were naturalized American citizens who were visiting their native land at the time of their son's birth.

		In 1844 and 1845 sugar cured smoked beef and tongues, bacon, ham, canisters of fresh salmon and lobsters "already prepared for the table" were among the delicacies enumerated.

		A detailed assessment of the human remains was made by University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology professional staff in consultation with representatives of the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma and the Peoria Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma.
		In 1845, the human remains were donated to the Academy of Natural Sciences by Rev. Ferguson, and in 1997, were transferred to the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology.
		Officials of the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology also have determined that, pursuant to 25 U.S.C. 3001 (2), there is a relationship of shared group identity that can be reasonably traced between the Native American human remains and the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma and the Peoria Tribe of Indians in Oklahoma.

		It is a sad commentary on the state of archaeology in the Holy Land, when the purpose of an excavation at a Biblical site is to disprove the Bible and disassociate the site with any historical Jewish connection.

	Archaeology - Territorial Forts of Wisconsin

		American archaeology as a professional or academic discipline also took time to develop from amateur antiquarians or pure relic seekers (pot-hunters).
		This develpoment was compounded by the prejudice toward Native American culture and a bias that actually blinded many early antiquarians from recognizing that the many mounds found in the East were actually components of Native American cultures.
		However, in 1960 L. Binford proposed a "New Archaeology" that delved into general laws and cognition that has emerged into what was called processual archaeology; changing to specific cases of the process of cultural change and explanation derived from ecological and cultural factors.

		Florida became an American territory, and entered the Union as a State in 1845.
		Although it was a small and often struggling town on the edge of the Spanish Empire for much of it's colonial history, St. Augustine did survive as the oldest European town in the United States.
		Archaeological research has been underway in St. Augustine since the 1930s, and the University of Florida and Florida State University have sustained an annual field school in historical archaeology there since 1968, under the direction of Hale Smith, Charles Fairbanks and Kathleen Deagan.

	HISTORIC CERAMICS
		Historical archaeology studies typically identify sponge decorated wares with Scottish producers, and it has been suggested that the technique originated there in the 1830s, although they were also widely manufactured in Staffordshire and other British potting industries.
		The "Staffordshire knot" dates from 1845, but was especially common in the 70s and 80s (Godden 1964:11).
		Watkins (1982:3) suggests that the stamp indicates a prior experience in potting and that the incision may commemorate the brothers first burning.

		The early archaeology of Washington, D.C., done by William Henry Holmes, S. Proudfit, and others, reveals a number of village, camp, and quarry sites within the present boundaries of the city (Figure 4).
		That frame dwellings outnumbered brick indicates that George Washington’s vision of a substantial, brick and stone city to reflect symbolically the substantial new nation and L’Enfant’s formal plan had not come to pass.
		Between 1820 and 1829, 533 brick and 500 frame dwellings were erected; between 1830 and 1839, 346 brick and 547 frame dwellings were erected; and between 1840 and 1845, 469 brick and 1,236 frame dwellings were erected (Watterston 1847:213).
