Mormon Pioneer National Historic Trail - The 1846 Trek (U.S. National Park Service)
The journey was split into two sections: Nauvoo to Omaha, Nebraska in 1846; and, Omaha to the Salt Lake Valley of Utah in 1847.
Although plans had already been made for the first group to leave Nauvoo in the spring of 1846, rumors of federal persecution and revocation of the Nauvoo city charter persuaded Brigham Young to begin the move earlier than expected.
Finally, by June 13, 1846, the first group of Mormons reached the Missouri River at Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Republic of Texas Poll Lists for 1846 : Genealogical Publishing Company
This 1846 poll list, compiled from the original tax rolls housed in the Texas State Archives, is actually the nearest thing we have to a complete census of the period.
It should be pointed out that a good deal of the 1846 population of Texas derived from the various settlement schemes which proliferated under the so-called impresario system, by which contracts for the settlement of immigrants were awarded to citizen-adventurers and commercial organizations.
The Poll Lists for 1846 is a very near approximation of the entire adult male population of the state, and as such it has the same authority as a reconstructed census.

He encamped at that place in August, 1845, and the Army remained in that position until the 11th of March, 1846, when it moved westward, and on the 28th of that month reached the east bank of the Rio Grande opposite to Matamoras.
Thus a revolution was accomplished solely by the army commanded by Paredes, and the supreme power in Mexico passed into the hands of a military usurper who was known to be bitterly hostile to the United States.
These instructions he executed by his note of the 1st of March, 1846, addressed to the Mexican minister of foreign affairs, but his request was insultingly refused by that minister in his answer of the 12th of the same month.

New Map Of Missouri. / Mitchell, Samuel Augustus / 1846
Tanner issued this atlas first in 1836 with engraved maps, then it was taken over by Carey and Hart in 1843 and converted by them to lithographic maps in 1845.
In 1846 Mitchell took over the publishing of this atlas and continued until 1849, after which it was published until 1860 by Thomas, Cowperthwait and then Charles DeSilver.
This atlas is important in American printing history in that it was the first American atlas to be converted from engraved map plates to lithographic map plates - greatly reducing the cost of production and thus making the book made widely affordable by the general public.
