The 1846 Oregon Treaty, formally titled Treaty with Great Britain, in Regard to Limits Westward of the Rocky Mountains, and also known as the Treaty of Washington, established the border between the British and American sections of the Oregon Country.
Francis Marion Smith was born in Richmond, Wisconsin on February 2, 1846.
Wilhelm Maybach (February 9, 1846 - December 29, 1929) was a German car-engine and automobile constructor and industrialist.

Their music, however, enters recorded history only with early 17th-century European observers such as Marc LESCARBOT, Father Paul LE JEUNE and Father Gabriel Sagard, who were as fascinated by the exotic sounds and sights of native music-making as they were ill equipped to describe and analyse it.
Music was introduced as an activity in many public schools after the middle of the 19th century; Alexander T. Cringan was one of its principal pioneers, and the Petit Séminaire de Québec had a school orchestra as early as 1833.
The improvement of music education after WWII began with the establishment of the CONSERVATOIRE DE MUSIQUE DU QUÉBEC by the province of Québec in 1942, first in Montréal and later in 7 centres, and the creation of courses at the U of T for professional performers and school music educators (1946).

 Denmark - Culture - Music
Musical gatherings and public concerts took place in Copenhagen from the beginning of the 18th century, partly under the auspices of the Music Society (founded 1744) in which J.E. Iversen, J.A. Scheibe and Holberg were the driving forces.
It was forced to close in 1749, prey to its enemy the Italian opera, but soon new societies and clubs arose, in which amateurs could show off their talents, from time to time aided by professional musicians, including those from the Royal Orchestra.
After 1836 it was also possible to forgather in the Music Society, which had been founded with the intention of publishing Danish music, but which developed into an institution for arranging concerts.

This piece was commissioned in 1846 by the Chemin de Fer du Nord to mark the opening of the railway line from Paris to Lille; it was first performed at Lille on 14th June, 1846.
Music for Excelsior, a spectacle devised and choreographed by Luigi Manzotti.
The only music from the show to be published was a song, retitled 'Mile after Mile', lyrics by Buddy Bernier and Charles Alan, published by Crawford in 1939; in the same year a version for jazz orchestra by Paul Weirick was also published.

Frederic Woodman Root was born in Boston, MA on 13 June 1846 and died in Chicago, IL on 8 November 1916.
He was a teacher of vocal music, conductor, writer, lecturer, organist and composer.
He was a contemporary of, and fellow Normal Musical Institute singer with, Thomas Martin Towne (1835-1912), and Philip Paul Bliss (1838-1876).
