 Politics and the Police
Mayor Art Agnos showed up at the press conference on a mountain bike, praised the department for its work, and noted that the improvements had occurred after former police chief Frank Jordan, his opponent in the coming mayoral race, had left office.
Little more than a week before the election, ACLU spokesman John Crew, who during the Agnos regime was known in the department as the "Fifth Commissioner" because of his obvious influence over commission affairs, and who attends commission meetings regularly, was "shocked" to find out how often the meetings had been cancelled.
Any of the noted stories would be deserving of publication at any time, but their timing and placement just before an election raises the question of whether people with a political axe to grind are not manipulating the public information system just a bit.

The town was incorporated as the "city" of Atlanta in 1847, and by 1860 the population was 9,554.
Atlanta has such a great economic impact on the state and the surrounding region that cities and towns up to 100 miles away are considered 'exurbs', defined by the fact that people depend on their livelihoods by commuting to work in the city, rapidly growing what is called Metro Atlanta.
Atlanta was largely destroyed by Union forces during the Civil War, but was chosen as the state capital in 1868, having been established as the site of command for Union soldiers and the Reconstruction administration.

In response to Prince Albert's Society of Arts competition in 1845, Cole designed a tea service using the pseudonym Felix Summerley which was subsequently manufactured by Minton and embodied his ideas of combining form with function.

 World Rivers Review, June 1998
Professor Childs-Johnson, who specializes in Yangzi River archaeology, believes that the piece, sold during the March 1998 International Asian Art Fair, is one of only three fully intact, bronze spirit trees (also known by the more popular variation, "money tree") documented by archaeologists.
Professor Wang Yucheng at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), Institute of Archaeology, and a colleague of Yu Weichao, confirmed that the spirit tree candelabrum is from a Han Dynasty burial site called Jiangdongzui in Wushan County, an area to be flooded by the Three Gorges dam.
Yu Weichao, the director of conservation of cultural relics in the Three Gorges area and the director of Beijing's prestigious National Museum of Chinese History, has since then verified the provenance of the sold piece.
