The tannaitic traditional literature is derived from the three original branches of the traditional science, as taught in the schools of both Palestine and Babylonia.
The traditional literature contains, indeed, an abundance of correct explanations that are in harmony with the wording and the context; and it bears everywhere evidence of a fine linguistic sense, good judgment, and an acute insight into the peculiarities and difficulties of the Bible text.
The Midrash literature was enriched by new compilations; and the exegetes also, striving for a certain independence, found the material for their commentaries mostly in the traditional literature.

Literature, Science and Science Fiction is a multidisciplinary course that explores the interactions between literature and science.
But the representation of Peter's city in Russian culture (primarily literature but other arts as well) contributed to the creation of a "myth of St. Petersburg" that was in turn projected onto and influenced the city's "reality," if it can be called that.
This course adapts the goals of the category "Literature, Thought and the Arts" to the context of the changing relations between the aesthetic and ideological principles that have governed Russian literature in the twentieth century.

One of the goals of the course will be to destroy the perception common among students that literature written in Russia after 1917 pales in comparison to the literature of the pre-revolutionary period.
Ultimately, what we are concerned with is the function of literature and film as part of America's cultural self-expression; literature and film both expose and embody the tensions and contradictions of American character.
This course is designed to introduce the student into the philosophical literature and standard analyses of issues relating to death and the possibility or impossibility of the continuation of personal existence after the body stops functioning.

 U.S. Postage Stamps of 1847
The Five and Ten Cent stamps of 1847 were the first adhesive postage stamps authorized for issue by the U.S. Post Office Department, in response to a law passed on March 3, 1847.
The law was to take effect on July 1, 1847 and made illegal the use of postage stamps not authorized by the Postmaster General.
Many of the pre-July 1, 1847 stamps, known to collectors as carriers, locals and provisionals, are items of great philatelic importance, but they are not covered here since they were not issued by authority of the U.S. Post Office Department.

Latinizing of the culture after Hungary's conversion to Christianity delayed the rise of an indigenous literature, and the Hungarian language was first used to translate religious matter, the earliest known text originating around 1200.

The scope of Hungarian literature was further expanded by the classicism of Mihaly Babits; the realistic fiction of Zsigmond MORICZ; the sophisticated plays of Ferenc MOLNAR; the fiction of Tibor DERY, Lajos Kassak, Gyula Krudy, and Laszlo Nemeth; and the poetry of Attila JOZSEF, Gyula Illyes, and Sandor Weores.

I take world literature to encompass all literary works that circulate beyond their culture of origin, either in translation or in their original language (Virgil was long read in Latin in Europe).
The variability of a work of world literature is one of its constitutive features--one of its greatest strengths when the work is well presented and read well, and its greatest vulnerability when it is mishandled or misappropriated by its newfound foreign friends.
In an influential 1993 report to the American Comparative Literature Association on the state of the discipline, a committee chaired by Charles Bernheimer urged that comparatists should be actively engaged in reconceiving the canon, paying particular attention to "various contestatory, marginal, or subaltern perspectives" (Comparative Literature in the Age of Multiculturalism, 44).

Charlotte Brontë characterized the eponymous heroine of her 1847 novel as being "as poor and plain as myself." Presenting a heroine with neither great beauty nor entrancing charm was an unprecendented maneuver, but Brontë's instincts proved correct, for readers of her era and ever after have taken Jane Eyre into their hearts.
This is definitely feminist literature, published in 1847, way before the beginning of any feminist movement.
The critical depiction of the school at Lowood in Jane Eyre drew on Charlotte's experiences at Cowan Bridge and her eldest sister, Maria, was the inspiration for the character of Helen Burns.

In 1847, he launched what was to prove an extraordinarily prolific writing career by publishing the Narrative of his own escape from slavery, an autobiography that was to go through at least eight editions at home and abroad.
He followed this piece in 1848 with a compilation, The Antislavery Harp, of interest not only historically, but also for its inclusion of “Jefferson’s Daughter,” based upon the well-known rumor of the sale of Thomas Jefferson’s mulatto daughter at a New Orleans slave auction, the apparent inspiration for Brown’s subsequent novel.
