  Islam and science
Medieval Europe was the birthplace of classical modern science, which is generally regarded to have come to birth in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, and the Greek foundation was extremely important for its growth.
When East and West met significantly once again in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the science the Western conquerors brought with them was as alien to the Muslims as the science they gave eight centuries previously had been to the Europeans.
With the education including modern science that was brought into Islamic countries, especially where Muslim individuals corresponded or discussed issues with Western scientists, it seems certain that the Baconian tradition of a complementary relationship between science and religion was also transmitted.

 Science -- Getz et al. 283 (5409): 1855
Science can help in assessing the likely economic and ecological outcomes of different options, especially if relevant data exist on the application of these options in other areas.
Science provides tools for storing, visualizing, and analyzing information, as well as projecting long-term trends so that nonmyopic efficient solutions to complex problems can be obtained.

 Language Log: Attention Deficit
The figures in Science were analogous -- between 1936 and 1996, sentence length dropped from 27.1 to 25.8, though the average number of punctuation marks per sentence actually increased slightly.
And even if you were determined to interpret declining sentence length as an indicator of declining attention capacity, you'd be led to a curious conclusion.
Similarly (if less dramatically) for Science, where there has been a 10 percent increase in mean sentence length over the past 20 years.

Many activities are today characterized as "Science!", while other activities are just as definitely characterized as "Pseudoscience!", maybe without the one making the judgement always having made it clear to himself what he really means with the words he is using.
The other, termed "science ideal", refers to that science, which within a paradigm is considered to be the best expression/reflection of what science "is" and should be.
During the "idealistic" period of science one built the world picture on the basis of the doctrine of the elements, just as one, during the following "materialistic" period of science has put much energy into the work of building a consistent world picture, based on the idea of the atom.
