The several kinds of geese including the Canada goose, the Arctic goose or wavey, the laughing goose, the brant and othersall breed inthe northern regions, but are found in great numbers throughout the several provinces, passing north in the spring and south in the autumn.

 Immigrants to Canada - Immigration Report of 1862
April 1862, "to authorize grants on the shores of the island," which has since been confirmed, gives the Colonial Government the power of making grants of the shores on the coasts, bays, and rivers of the island between high and low water mark.
But it is satisfactory to find that the general revenue for the first three quarters of 1862 is stated approximately at 67,073£ against 47,000£ for the same period of 1861, shewing an increase of upwards of 20,000£ or more than 42 per cent.
The number of men remaining in Carriboo at the close of 1862 was only 350; of these 150 were on William's Creek, and the remainder in the southern part of the district.
