  About Bulgaria - Literature
Bulgarian literature began in the second half of the 9th century AD with the translations by St. Cyril and St. Methodius of religious works from Greek into the vernacular, now known as Old Church Slavonic.
From this period until the Turkish conquest of Bulgaria (1396) Bulgarian literature consisted mainly of similar translations of the Gospels, lives of the saints, sermons, and other religious material.
Before 1878 writers were concerned with social and political questions, above all with national independence, rather than with literary style or the problems of the inner life of the individual.

For almost a century thereafter, Utah's literature could be divided into "insider" writings by the often beleaguered Mormons and intended for internal consumption and "observer" writings intended to explain or sometimes denounce Utah to the larger society.

Although it was never really recognized by critics as a high form of art or practiced by the leading artists of the time, many people purchased still lifes for their homes.
Harnett was an expert at rendering textures: for example, the tattered and fragile music stained with age; the shine of an ebony-and-ivory flute; books with worn leather covers; the reflection of light on a brass candlestick; the translucency of a candle; and the shiny and matte sides of a red ribbon bookmark.
Music and literature help to preserve the past, and Harnett specifically included Miguel Cervantes's early seventeenth-century novel Don Quixote and music (in the foreground) from the more recent opera La Traviata, written by Guiseppe Verdi in 1853.

Nat' Academies Press, Critical Perspectives on Schooling and Fertility in the Developing World (1999)
Yet only recently has a family-level literature emerged from sociology that attempts to link the household's immediate economic situation to the broader institutional and cultural context by examining how forces at these two levels of social organization shape girls' school attainment (e.g., Walters and James, 1992).
The first conceptual step is to separate household-level processes from both the economic context and social institutions, such as the state and school, that may variably condition family-level action.
As an example, the new family-economy model has helped explain an early contradiction in the school attainment literature: as societies industrialized from an agricultural or commercial base, enrollment rates often grew most rapidly in rural areas, not within industrializing centers where neoclassical theory accurately predicted higher economic returns to more schooling (Fishlow, 1966).
