		Modern look of the cathedral was the result of the last reconstruction done by M. Lovtsov, Academician in Architecture, in 1882-1892, at the expense of traders Dmitriy and Nikolai Sukhanovs from Sumy.

	Architecture
		The skyscraper is the most important development in 20th century architecture.
		Preachers at time called the Woolworth Building the "Cathedral of Commerce" because of its Gothic details and its 3-story lobby with gold mosaics, one of which depicts Woolworth holding his building, just as medieval paintings depicted the donors of churches offering their works to God.
		In 1922 an important architectural competition was held.

		Guilds were a fundamental element of economic life, and in each town in Flanders the major guilds competed to create the most impressive structure for their organization.
		The Guild Houses on the main square in Antwerp are modeled on domestic architecture.
		They reflect the tradition of building in wood with their use of stone to imitate wooden pillars and beams.

	Architecture tour -- Brief History
		Pasadena Public Library was founded December 26, 1882 as private subscription library under the name "Pasadena Library and Village Improvement Society." The Library's founding thus predates the City's incorporation by four years.
		An architectural competition was held to choose the architects for all three buildings.
		Ten California architectural firms were invited to submit drawings for all three buildings and were advised to use the architectural styles of the Renaissance or later periods as found in Mediterranean countries.

	Washington County, Maine--Historic Sites
		Built in 1829 or 1840, this church's exterior was remodeled in 1870, and the design reflects Greek Revival influence with it's triangular gabled pediment, wide cornice and corner pilasters.

	New York Architecture Images- Cass Gilbert
		Introduced to architecture as a draughtsman and carpenter's assistant, Gilbert enrolled at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1878 as a pupil of William Ware.
		Gilbert (1859-1934) was born in Zanesville, Ohio and began his architectural career as an apprentice in the office of Abraham Radcliff of St. Paul.
		The use of a skyscraper form for a federal building was a significant departure from the accepted norm for federal architecture, which favored horizontal forms.

	Design Bridges DFC’s European Session
		The Design Futures Council recently held a session of its executive board in Copenhagen, Denmark prior to The American Institute of Architects International Committee PIA’s Design Diplomacy: Public Policy and the Practice of Architecture conference.

	H.H. Richardson
		It is a revival style based on French and Spanish Romanesque precedents of the 11th century.
