In June, 1886, the Regina and Long Lake Railway was opened for 22 miles north of Regina, [67] and a boat was later brought from Selkirk, Manitoba, [68] to operate on the lake and bring steam transportation another 40 miles northward.
This is not a precise figure, because a census was taken in Manitoba in 1886 (population 108,640) and in the North-West Territories in 1885 (population 48,362).
To obtain the 1886 population for the Territories, I have followed the estimate of population increase made by the Secretary of the Department of Agriculture in 1886 and adjusted the 1885 population figures as given in the census.

By June 1886 service to and from Richmond Road was shown as a connection to and from Elgin street and service was discontinued in June 1888, not to be reinstated.
A new location was needed and in January 1891 the Canada Atlantic informed the City Council that it was negotiating with the federal government to use the Canal Reserve to reach a new station between the Maria Street (Laurier) Bridge and the Canal Basin.

 Winchester 1886 Extra Light .45-70
The inspiration for the new Winchester Model 1886 Extra Light was the original Model 1886, created by gunsmithing genius John Moses Browning.
Unlike the weak toggle-link actions of preceding Winchesters, the '86 incorporated two solid steel locking lugs that slid up on either side of the bolt when the lever was closed, thus making a rock-solid arrangement for the longer-cased big-bore cartridges that were gaining in popularity, specifically the.45-70 Government.
The Winchester 1886 Extra Light.45-70's trim lines are as appealing now as they were originally.
