  History of Canada
The unification of Upper Canada, Lower Canada, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia into the Dominion of Canada in 1873 was brought about less by a general desire for Canadian unification than by British desires to make Britain's colonies of settlement more responsible for their defense.
Canada was peculiarly influenced by first contact with the ITA, as it seemed that Canada might lose many of its new territories to a Marketplace-allied state.
The first Japanese-Canadian president of Canada in history, Nakayama and his party were elected on a platform of finally making Canada a modern and officially multinational state, with devolution of substantial powers to the Native American-majority territories in the north and west of Canada and to Asian-majority Vancouver Island.

Canada's connection to the Pacific region can be traced back to the late 1700s, when the first sea-otter pelts from the coast of what would become British Columbia were conveyed across the Pacific to China to be traded.
It was not until the 1960s that Canada began to liberalize its immigration laws and policies, and by the end of the decade, substantial numbers of immigrants, especially skilled workers, began arriving from countries like India, Hong Kong, Pakistan and the Philippines.
In the 1960s, Canada needed skilled medical personnel, and many of Canada's Filipino immigrants during the period were doctors and nurses.

This colony which was organized in 1885 has now a good number of Scandinavian settlers, and the letters from said colony, published in the "Scandinavian Canadian," testify to the satisfaction of the settlers regarding their selection of land and to the good crops they had last season.
In ordinary years hay is used both for the bedding and feeding of stock; in bad years, such as last, the straw stacks usually burnt as an encumbrance are now used for bedding purposes.
For the cultivation of this, Canada, and especially the virgin soil of the North-West, is eminently suitable; indeed, the Mennonites in Manitoba have for many years raised crops of flax, which have been remunerative in the highest degree.
