		It shows that the steel in Science Hall's attic beams is very low in carbon (~.1-.15%) and hot rolled from the Carnegie Co. The floor joists are a slightly higher carbon content (~.4-.45) from the J. Walker foundry.
		Science Hall became the oldest building in the world to use significant amounts of steel in its frame, when the Chicago Home Insurance Building was demolished around 1930.
		Science Hall has been shown to have a special place, not only in the history of the UW-Madison campus but in the history of modern building.

		Modeling is an art as well as a science and is directed toward finding a good approximating model of the empirical data as the basis for statistical inference from those data.
		I see 3 groups of graduate students that might benefit from this class: those interested in science and general science methods, those interested in model-based inference in the biosciences, and those interested in general quantitative methods.
		Students should be keenly interested in science and have a good background in least squares methods (e.g., “regression") or likelihood methods and have some experience and interest in modeling.

		The 1890 Act promoted segregation by providing for it in the language of the Act, by providing schools to divert students who wished to enter the white colleges into, and by submitting a group of influential fl leaders to the Southern state legislatures.
		However, the 1890 Act provided that a state could establish separate colleges, one white and one fl, and still be in compliance with the Act.
		They could also use the 1890 funds for agriculture and mechanics and divert the funds that were used for previous agricultural and mechanical studies to the classical studies.

	Burgess, John William. The Columbia Encyclopedia, Sixth Edition. 2001-05
		In 1876 he began his long association with Columbia; he was professor of political science and constitutional law until 1912.
		Burgess, with Nicholas Murray Butler, was a major influence in the creation (1880) of a faculty and school of political science, the first such faculty organized for graduate work in the country and the chief step in changing Columbia College into a university.
