Canada spans an immense territory between the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the east (hence the country's motto), with the United States to the south (contiguous United States) and northwest (Alaska), and the Arctic Ocean to the north; Greenland is to the northeast.
Canada's position between the Soviet Union (now Russia) and the US was strategically important during the Cold War as the route over the North Pole and Canada was the fastest route by air between the two countries and the most direct route for intercontinental ballistic missiles.
Canada claims 12 nautical miles (22 km) of territorial sea, a contiguous zone of 24 nautical miles (44 km), an exclusive economic zone of 200 nautical miles (370 km) and a continental shelf of 200 nautical miles (370 km) or to the edge of the continental margin.

Mr Petit came to Canada in 1837 and to Lapeer County Michigan in 1856 and to Cass City in 1874 where he resided until his recent death.
He was married to Ann Maria Wood in 1830 and to them were born 10 children nine of who are living and 7 followed their beloved father to his last resting place.
The funeral was held at the Presyterian Church of Cass City, Sabbath July 26, 1891 conducted by the pastor and A A MacKenzie undertaker.

 Canada Atlantic Railway Elgin Street Station
The Canada Atlantic was conceived as the Montreal and City of Ottawa Junction Railway, to connect to the Grand Trunk at Coteau.
Later on, when the Canada Atlantic completed its bridge across the St. Lawrence at Coteau and its connection to the Central Vermont at Alburgh Junction, through night trains were operated to both Boston and New York, over a variety of railroads.
A new location was needed and in January 1891 the Canada Atlantic informed the City Council that it was negotiating with the federal government to use the Canal Reserve to reach a new station between the Maria Street (Laurier) Bridge and the Canal Basin.

 Rideau Canal Accident
Wednesday 12th August 1891 started out as any other normal day for the Canada Atlantic Railway Elgin street depot but before very long it had turned into a nightmare for many C.A.R. employees.
The siding used to raise the tender and possibly the locomotive as well, is on the other side of the canal bridge running away from the photographer.
When the Grand Trunk acquired the Canada Atlantic, No. 683 became G.T.R. No. 1350 in January 1905 and was re-numbered G.T.R. 2529 in 1910.

From its founding in 1891 until about 1900, the IBEW sought to consolidate its position as the bargaining representative for all electrical workers.
While this goal appears to have been achieved in several cities, including Kansas City, Kansas, and Mount Vernon, New York, during this period, the union made little headway against employers in other areas; for example, the Edison Company of Rockford, Illinois, which routinely discharged workers for joining the union.
