SurfWax: News, Reviews and Articles On Greek Architecture
Set against Michal Kremenko's set with its impressive mod approximation of Greek architecture, its chromium poolside chairs and streamlined pool in place of the classical wine-dark sea, with Sasson Kedem's original costumes, Bambi's inspired lighting, Avi Binyamin's appropriate music, and Ben Bar-Shavit's crisp Hebrew translation, Kreindlin's direction of Medea is superb.
Michaelides said this organic Greek architecture had a great effect on his teaching and informed his design of the WU campus buildings.
The terrace, which he designed a couple years previously for a local builder, was described by Henry Russell-Hitchcock, an American historian, as "with little question, the finest of all nineteenth-century terraces, both in design and execution, and one of the world's most superb pieces of design based on Greek precedent." Thomson apparently modelled...

His major disappointment was the non-executed John F. Kennedy Memorial Concert Hall, a design which he spent much time on and which was cancelled due to the efforts of the Arts Council and Michael Scott.

ARTSetc: The Bauhaus, modernism and domestic architecture
At first the Bauhaus was mainly involved with expressionist art, design and architecture, but later became famous for its development of a style of functional architecture and its experimental use of building materials.
Gropius was interested in a more expressionist kind of architecture and was involved in the Newman Gallery Exhibition of Unknown Architects in 1919, which displayed visionary sketches and models.
One of the organisers of this exhibition, Bruno Taut, published a journal from 1920-22; Frühlicht (early light) was a supplement to an architectural magazine and then an independent publication, in which Gropius was also involved.

Scheu House Vienna by Adolf Loos
What is certain is that these terraces played an important role in the development of 20th century architecture in a time where the use of flat roofs was subject to a great deal of controversy.
The interiors are Richardsonian, with the walls covered in dark oak in the social areas and wood painted white in the bedrooms.
Joseph Rosa, in Adolf Loos Architecture 1903-1932 (The Monacelli Press, NY 1996), suggests a connection between Rudolph Schindler's house of 1922 and the terraces of the Scheu house.
