The World's Fair of 1904 celebrated the Centennial of the Louisiana Purchase, an event in American history having an importance secondary only to the Declaration of Independence.
The Territory acquired from France by this purchase embraced all the land lying between the Mississippi River and the crest of the Rocky Mountains, and its ownership by the United States made possible the extension of the nation's boundries to the Pacific Ocean.
No centennial was ever so grandly celebrated, for this Exposition was without a peer in history, and a visit within its gates was an event to be always remembered with pleasure and satisfaction by young and old alike.

I found this charming pattern for a knitted doll's sweater in the May, 1904 issue of 'The Modern Priscilla'.
The construction of the sweater is interesting: you knit the back, then 'over the shoulders' and down each front, then pick up and knit the sleeves.
This should fit an "American Girl" or other 18" doll (my 19 year old daughter's AG doll is lurking in her dad's basement...as soon as I can retrieve it, I'll take a picture of her in her new sweater!).

Whatever the source, by the time a watchman saw flames and sounded the alarm at 8:04 pm on that icy night of April 19, 1904, the Wellington Street building in which it had started was already a loss, and the fire was spreading to its neighbours.
The tenants at number 13 are Wyld and Darling, whose later warehouse at Bay and Wellington streets was destroyed by the 1904 fire.
The tall fragment in the centre reads "Comfort Soap." The tower to its right is that of the Union Station of the time, which was far enough west to escape the fire.
