In 1906 the All-India Muslim League formed with favorable relations towards British rule, but by 1913 that changed when the League shifted its focus and began to view Indian self-government as its goal.
Gandhi was very opposed to the idea of partition, and urged Mountbatten to offer Jinnah leadership of a united India instead of the creation of a separate Muslim state.
In July Britain's Parliament passed the Indian Independence Act, which set a deadline of midnight on August 14-15, 1947 for "demarcation of the dominions of India." As a result, at least 10 million Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs fled their homes to seek sanctuary on whichever side of the line was favorable to them.

The club again selected one of his books in 1946, "Mistress Masham's Repose." The selection of these books gave his books a large popular audience in addition to the small, but intense, group of admirers which he had had almost from the beginning of his writing career.

Mohammad Ali Jinnah himself was in favour of United India till the 1930s but as he later felt the Hindu intentions he seperated himself from the Congress although he was thought to become the aspiring Congress Leader to lead india to independence.
It was never proven that Jinnah's intentions of a United India ever changed since there is conflicting evidence about his personal opinions on this matter.
