	Who Watched the Film?
		Films are made to be watched, and without a sense of the original audience our grasp on films as historical documents remains incomplete.
		Likewise, film trade magazines began appearing around 1907 to advise exhibitors (supposedly with less bias than the producers) on what films would be profitable, and local theater managers often printed reports that reveal audiences' tastes and assumptions in these trade journals.
		Recurrent patterns in films from one era tell what genres were popular; what behavior was seen as heroic or villainous; and what sorts of scenes were considered visually beautiful, hilarious, or endearing.

		The in-camera matte effect was of two separately filmed segments: the interior of a train station and the window (where a shot of a passing train was matted).
		This film also used the technique of a traveling matte (the process of adding a moving element to a frame so that it could be separated as an element and combined with a different background).
		Although this film was not the first sound film, nor the first 'talkie' film or the first movie musical, it was the first feature-length Hollywood "talkie" film in which spoken dialogue was used as part of the dramatic action.

		Good survey of the projects that are being produced in Liverpool, although there is only one feature film, there's a mass of television, including the bizarre sounding Casualty 1906 which sounds like it'll do for the Holby City branch of the NHS what Neil Gaiman's comic 1602 did for the Marvel Universe.
		It's good to see that companies are still choosing the city as a backdrop for their productions.
