The first decade of World Series baseball came to a close as two regulars, the Chicago Cubs (making their fourth appearance) and Philadelphia Athletics (making their second) went head-to-head for the championship title.
The Chicago Cubs could have won their third world championship, which would have been a Major League first, but the Philadelphia Athletics took home the title and their first in franchise history.
No World Series MVP Award was given until 1955.

Many players had long felt the owners were denying them their fair share of club profits, and in no more obvious instance than in the World Series, where the triumphant owners were taking in record receipts and were rumored to have sold tickets to scalpers to make even more.
John McGraw's Giants had returned to the World Series in 1921 to find they were in the first of 13 "Subway Series," facing their co-tenants at the Polo Grounds, the Yankees, who now had the biggest star in sports, Babe Ruth.

From 1919-1921, the Series had reverted back to a best-of-9 format, so I'll leave these years out since that length of series can't be used in OOTP (although, as mentioned earlier, 1921 followed the simple alternating method).
Finally, in 1924, the pattern was standardized at 2-3-2, regardless of the cities the teams were from, and has been used in every World Series since, with two exceptions, In 1943 and 1945, due to travel restrictions caused by the war, the home field rotation pattern was changed to 3-4.
The cancellation of the World Series in 1994 meant that the rotation for that year was skipped, so in 1995 the NL team got the home field advantage, and from there things alternated once again, with odd years going to the NL team and even years going to the AL team.

The A's had one more appearance in the Baker-Collins years, in 1914, but were swept by the Boston Braves - Bill James and Dick Rudolph pitched 29 innings combined and allowed just one earned run to shut down the mighty A's.
