The 1916 rebellion was a blow against imperialism which scandalised to the Home Rule leaders and terrified the respectable classes.
The 1916 Proclamation was a mildly radical document but there is no evidence that its promise ‘to cherish all the children of the nation equally’ has had any impact on modern Ireland.
Northern Ireland remains part of the UK and will remain so until the the majority of the people of Northern Ireland vote to join the Republic.

Suspension of the bill stimulated the growth of the Citizen Army, an illegal force of Dublin citizens organised by the labour leader Jim Larkin (died 1948) and the socialist James Connolly (1870-1916); of the Irish Volunteers, a national defence body; and of the extremist Sinn Féin.
By the terms of the treaty, all of Ireland except the six counties constituting Northern Ireland was to receive dominion status identical with that of Canada.
On Easter Monday, April 18, 1949, by the terms of the Republic of Ireland Bill approved by the Dáil in November 1948, Éire became the Republic of Ireland, formally free of allegiance to the British crown and the Commonwealth of Nations.

The Taoiseach's announcement late last year that the traditional 1916 parade past Dublin's GPO is to be reinstated for this year's 90th anniversary, came after over three decades of dispute over how the physical force tradition represented by the Rising should be marked, in the light of the violence in Northern Ireland.
She had a strong impression that to its enemies, "both in Ireland and abroad, Irish nationalism looked like a version of the imperialism it opposed" and that it favoured "the domination of one cultural and ethnic tradition over others.
She said that because this year was the 90th anniversary of both the 1916 Rising and the Battle of the Somme, it had "the potential to be a pivotal year for peace and reconciliation, to be a time of shared pride for the divided grandchildren of those who died whether at Messines or in Kilmainham".

Jimmy Doyle escaped from Clan William House and avoided capture, he got as far as Marion Square where he was set upon by a crowd, but he escaped and another crowd of people carried him to a house where his wounds were treated and a change of clothes provided.
He was deported by the British, but later returned to Ireland after Independence and was elected to Parliament.
However, Sergeant Michael Doyle of the Royal Irish Constabulary was decorated for gallantry with the Constabulary Medal on 27th July 1916, for bravery in action against the I.R.A. And, Constable Patrick Doyle of the Royal Irish Constabulary was wounded by I.R.A. men at Lower Glanmire Road in Cork on 11th May 1920.
