Babe Ruth was in New York and busy breaking his own records for the second consecutive season.
As the Red Sox were struggling to stay competitive, the Yankees were still getting used to winning after coming off of a third place American League finish during the Babe's "rookie" season in a pinstriped uniform.
If the 1920 season had left Boston wondering if they had made a mistake, then the 1921 season surely removed any doubt.

New York Daily News - Yankees - Who's got you, Babe?
Frazee and Ruppert agreed on the Ruth deal on Dec. 26, 1919, but the news wasn't announced until Jan. 5, 1920.
But he bolted the team to go barnstorming the final weekend of the season, angering Frazee, and made more salary demands for the 1920 season, asking for $20,000.
Frazee had sold other stars to the Yankees - the two teams were perfectly matched for a change, because Frazee and Yanks' owner Col. Jacob Ruppert clashed with American League president Ban Johnson and formed an alliance of sorts.

World Series - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is the first time that the New York Yankees have been swept in a World Series in four games (the 1922 series had one tie).
Baseball researcher Doug Pappas refutes that claim, demonstrating a linear progression from the phrase "World's Championship Series" (used to describe the 1903 series as well as some of the 19th century post-season series) to "World's Series" (a term first used in the 1880s and which persisted for decades) to "World Series".
In baseball, the World Series is the championship series of Major League Baseball in the United States and Canada, played in October after the end of the regular season between the pennant winner of the American League and the pennant winner of the National League.

The 1920 season got underway and the White Sox were driving hard to their second straight pennant when a petty gambler in Philadelphia broke the news that a Cubs-Phillies game had been fixed in 1919.
There have been other sports scandals in the 20th century- boxing matches that were fixed or allegedly fixed, the great college basketball scandal of the 1950s in New York City, rumors of other malfeasance in sports - but nothing holds a candle to the 1919 Black Sox scandal.

Encyclopedia article on New York Yankees [EncycloZine]
Ruth's home run total of 60 in 1927 was more than any other entire team in the American League and set a single-season record which would stand for 34 years, and first baseman Lou Gehrig had his first big season with 47 round-trippers.
The home run hitting exploits of Ruth proved popular with the public, to the extent that the Yankees were soon outdrawing their landlords, the Giants.
But the biggest of them all was pitcher-turned-outfielder Babe Ruth in January 1920, in exchange for $125,000 cash and a $300,000 mortgage on the Red Sox 's Fenway Park.
