The literature of the Koryo period is marked by an increased use of Chinese letters, the disappearance of Hyangga, and the emergence of Koryo kayo (Koryo songs) which continued to be transmitted as oral literature until the Choson period.
Korean modern literature was formed against the background of the crumbling feudalistic society of the Choson Dynasty, the importation of new ideas from the West, and the new political reality of rising Japanese imperial power in East Asia.
The change from traditional to modern literature during the Enlightenment period was largely due to the effects of the New Education and the Korean Language and Literature movement.

The question remains as to whether the Jewishness of Israeli literature, as of the rest of contemporary Israeli culture, must be explicitly articulated and examined or whether it is simply and naturally present, the matrix upon which everything else lies.

It was a sense of historicity that enabled these New African intellectuals as well as their contemporaries to write some of the earliest and durable literary histories of African literature(s) in the African languages, though paradoxically all of them were written in English.
The aforementioned literary histories of the major African literature(s) in the African languages are generally in agreement about certain fundamental issues pertaining to them.
