		In British politics, the 1922 Committee consists of all backbench Conservative Members of Parliament, though when the party is in opposition, frontbench MPs other than the party leader may also attend its meetings.
		The 1922 Committee has an 18-member executive committee, the chairman of which must oversee any election of a new party leader, or any vote of confidence for the current one; such a vote can be triggered by 15 percent of Tory MPs writing a letter to the chairman asking for such a vote.
		The committee was formed in 1923, but takes its name from the 1922 general election.

		A General Committee of 15 members, "as representative as possible of the various groups constituting this Conference" was elected to serve as a coordinating body for a Second Conference of th organization.
		The Credentials Committee, after protracted debate, reported that the policies of the Workers Party of America and the Young Workers League of America were not in harmony with the declarations and aims of the conference and recommended that the representatives of these organizations not be seated.
		The National Committee was directed to issue a call for formation of a new national political party after the November election, to be held at a Special National Convention of the CPPA in January 1925.

		The notorious and racist right-wing Tory cabal, otherwise known as the 1922 Committee, fed up with Ian Duncan Smith’s wimpy ‘liberal’ programme have finally managed to whip up enough hysteria to challenge IDS for the leadership of the Tory Party.
		The problem of course, is that IDS is just not rightwing enough for the right-wing party, which creates a bit of a problem for the Tories, as New Labour has already taken that seat.
		If the Tories go any further to the right than Labour has, they’ll end up in bed with the British National Party, which if the 1922 Committee gets its way, is precisely where the Tories are headed as they’ve got no other place to go, except down.
