 A History of Jews in Sports
The first Jewish sports clubs in the country, the Rishon le-Zion Club in Jaffa and the Bar Giora Club in Jerusalem, were established in 1906 by Leo Cohen and Aviezer Yellin, respectively, and shortly afterward the first qualified club leaders were appointed.
There is no evidence of sports among the Jews during the obscure period between the close of the Bible and the Maccabean periods.
He brought athletes from all parts of the world to compete in gladiatorial games and contests of boxing, racing, archery, and other sports and also contributed large sums to the Olympic games in Greece.

Tragically, it was while scouting a USC opponent that he died; attending a University of California football game on September 23, 1950, he suffered a heart attack while climbing the hill to Memorial Stadium in Berkeley, and died before reaching the hospital.
Barry was also a valued part of the USC football teams which claimed national championships in 1931, 1932 and 1939, as well as seven PCC titles and five Rose Bowl victories.
Barry was also nationally renowned as an innovator – he was the person most responsible for the elimination of the center jump after every free throw and basket in basketball, a move which resulted in a much faster-paced game; and he was also behind the move to create the center line and 10-second rule.

This Alvis was completed at the factory on the 5th May 1932, as an Experimental Car with an 4 cylinder experimental engine No. EX1 (apparently the prototype for the Firefly engine) in a Speed 20 chassis (see letter Alvis Ltd).
In a interview (1991/2) with the factory employee (Arthur Varney) by Nick Simpson of Earley Engineering Ltd. This men drove the car as company car from 1932 to 1933 when it was sold to an factory employee.
Most of these Experimental were broken up but it seems that, probaly due to the financial strictures of the times, the factory sold just about anything and everything throw the trade when possible.
