 Essentials of Music - Composers
The folk music of Hungary was central to the music of Béla Bartók.
He was not the first composer to make use of this music (we can see it as far back as Haydn), but he was one of the first to take it at face value, and to exploit its idiosyncrasies.
His tonal language continued to be colored by his work with folk music, and in some cases he made use of quarter tones.

all kinds of stuff: Clampett Music - Polar Pals (1939)
Early cartoons were very musical, especially Looney Tunes which by contract had to animate to music owned by Warner Bros. Later, this obligation was removed, but Clampett liked music so much he preserved the tradition more than the other directors.
The animation is really happy and totally uses the music to show off what cartoons can do that live action can't.
For one, I think that studios would demand that we use music that would appeal to the broadest demographic (because they're always trying to expand their audience) so musical cartoons today would have to be set to shit that just hurts your ears.

 Amazon.co.uk: 1939: Music: Fats Waller
Fats Waller 1939 is the 17th CD in the extensive Waller survey from Classics and it stands out through the inclusion of the pianist's unique "London Suite".
During a tour of England Waller recorded, with a mostly inaudible drummer, six piano compositions of his own which range from the typical up-tempo playing of "Piccadilly" through the more measured promenade along "Bond Street" to the reflective lyricism of "Chelsea".
The recording quality is indifferent but these are an important addition to the limited quantity of music Waller recorded away from his band and reveal the serious side which his clowning usually concealed.
