  X-E - The Worst Nintendo Game Endings...Ever!
It makes you think that the game makers felt no one would actually beat the game, so there was no reason to put any work into a big fun ending celebration.
The game was impossible, made no sense, and was all-around just an abomination as far as video gaming went.
Sure, you were almost never killed because you made a mistake...only if there were so many enemies on the screen at once that it'd be impossible to kill them all before they touched you with their acid hands of doom.

1942 is a vertical shooter similar to the very popular Turjah, but instead of flying a high-tech space ship and shooting aliens and meteors, you’ll be piloting a vintage warplane blasting enemy warplanes to kingdom come.
As the title of the game would suggest, the setting of the game is during the World War II era - you are an Allied group pilot whose mission is to fly from one aircraft carrier to another, blasting as many Axis aircrafts along the way.
Also I noticed that the game doesn’t really go full screen; as you can see from the screen shots, there is a noticeable “fl” border along the bottom and sides of the screen, and there’s also sometimes a white bar present at the bottom of the screen.

 Classic Review Archive - 1942
A translation of the popular arcade game, 1942 was good for it's time.
However, there have been many good overhead shooters released for the NES since then, and 1942 falls by the wayside, even when compared to some of the games that came out just a year later.
1942 could have been much more than it was - the arcade game deserved better treatment then this conversion.

NES in the Arcade - Playchoice 10, Vs. Unisystem, Vs. Dualsystem
The Vs. System arcade machines are single unit game machines, with a modified version of the NES game the game being modified into a real arcade game.
These games are different from their NES or Playchoice counterparts, in that the games are ported over into real arcade games, and they play just like any other arcade games.
And unlike the Playchoice games, there is no timer that decides how long you play, in these games you play effects how long you can play etc. Therefore, these games differ a fair amount from the original NES games (though are still roughly the same in terms of the game itself).

Although not the first game to receive a sequel (with Pirate Ship Higemaru receiving a Japan-only console semi-sequel, Higemaru Makaijima, in April 1987), 1942 was the first Capcom title to spawn a successful series of sequels, with five titles in the 19XX line released from 1987 to 2000.

There's no question that Battlefield: 1942 has the potential to be one of the biggest multiplayer games of the year -- it's just a matter of whether the team can get all the bugs out, the gameplay balanced and network code smooth, and it seems they're well on their way to doing that.
