		The 1948 Arab-Israeli War is called the War of Independence by Israelis and al Naqba, the catastrophe, by Arabs.
		In December 1948, the UN General Assembly passed Resolution 194 which declared that "refugees wishing to return to their homes and live in peace with their neighbors should be permitted to do so" and that "compensation should be paid for the property of those choosing not to return." It was summarily ignored by Israel.
		During the al-Aqsa Intifada incited by the PLO after the failure of the Camp David 2000 Summit, the attendance at the demonstrations against Israel have increased exponentially.

		On December 10, 1948 the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted and proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights the full text of which appears in the following pages.
