  The Partition of India
The partition of India and its freedom from colonial rule set a precedent for nations such as Israel, which demanded a separate homeland because of the irreconcilable differences between the Arabs and the Jews.
They had based their knowledge of the peoples of India on the basic religious texts and the intrinsic differences they found in them instead of on the way they coexisted in the present.
India and Pakistan have been to war twice since the partition and they are still deadlocked over the issue of possession of Kashmir.

India was obliged to stand apart on the CTBT in 1996 after having been actively engaged in the negotiations for two and a half years precisely because the issues of non-proliferation, global disarmament and India's concerns about her security and strategic autonomy were ignored.
India is currently participating in the negotiations of the Ad hoc Group of the States Parties of the BTWC with the aim to strengthen the convention by a protocol, including possible verification measures.
India is committed to strengthening the norm of transparency in conventional armaments in general, and greater participation in the UN Register of Conventional Arms in particular.

When the British relinquished their claims to paramountcy, the 562 independent princely states were given the option to join either of the two nations.
India successfully annexed Hyderabad and Junagadh after "police actions" and promises of privileges to the rulers.
On Sept. 13, 1948, Hyderabad was invaded by India, and within four days Hyderabad's accession to India was achieved.

The date was Tuesday, June 8, 1948 and Air India's aircraft - Malabar Princess, a 40-seater Lockheed L-749 Constellation, registration number, VT-CQS, with Captain K.R. Guzder in command - was in the final stages of preparation for its 5,000 mile journey from Mumbai to London via Cairo and Geneva.
In 1948 only a few airlines existed and not many countries had their own international operations.
The Times of India dated June 9, 1948 wrote, "The inauguration of India's external air service…marks the attainment by this country of its majority in their realm of aerial development….this is the first stage in India's march to international status…"

It was used between 1945 and 1947 in the context of India's membership of the United Nations, and possibly used earlier to denote India's membership of the League of Nations.
