Joyrides -- Sports cars brighten up a gray day at Gilmore Museum
Because of their competitive racing heritage, sports cars seem to be more nationalistic than most cars and the show cars were grouped together on the viewing field by country of origin under that country's flag.
Sports cars, an ill-defined category which spearheaded the imported car revolution in the United States after World War II, took the field on a threatening Saturday at the Gilmore Museum grounds north of Kalamazoo, Mich., providing some color and verve to the gray day.
One might trace development of the sports car back to Napoleon, who commanded construction of the long straight poplar-lined roads that criss-cross France and provided the venue for early development of auto sports in France.
