Grand Prix motor racing was first established in Britain by Henry Segrave at the Brooklands course in 1926 after his winning of the French Grand Prix in 1923 and the following year at the Spanish Grand Prix which raised interest in the sport.
In October 2004 the British Grand Prix was left off the preliminary race schedule for 2005 because the BRDC refused to pay the race fee demanded by Bernie Ecclestone.
The 2005 Grand Prix was an important race for all the drivers, especially Fernando Alonso, Kimi Räikkönen and Michael Schumacher.

Coming down the start/finish straight you brake lightly for Copse (a fast right hander taken at about 150 mph) you then accelerate past the exit of the pit lane (on your right into the Becketts complex which is a complex consisting of right and left sweeps).

Farina, who topped Juan Manuel Fangio by three points in the 1950 season, is best remembered for his style of driving; the relaxed, inclined position and outstretched arms that was to influence a whole generation of drivers.
His career declined, leading to retirement, following accidents during the 1960 Belgium Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps, where Moss was thrown from the car, breaking both legs, after a rear axle broke at over 130 mph, and an even worse shunt at Goodwood in 1962.

The British Grand Prix at Silverstone is to be included on Formula One's draft 2005 calendar when it is published on Wednesday, according to sources close to the negotiations.
Silverstone, which hosted the first Formula One grand prix in 1950, has yet to agree a deal but officials were confident it would be included.
"I am very hopeful that the British Grand Prix will be on the calendar for next year even though it may be subject to contract," the BBC quoted British Sports Minister Richard Caborn as saying on Tuesday.

The long drawn-out saga over the fate of the British Grand Prix appeared to have reached an abrupt conclusion on Wednesday morning, after Bernie Ecclestone told the British media he had finally broken off talks with Silverstone owner the British Racing Drivers’ Club over the 2005 race.
The dispute originally centered on the fee demanded by Ecclestone for the rights to stage the race, but after repeated appeals from the BRDC and (behind the scenes) the British government, Ecclestone reduced his asking price to $13.5 million, which the BRDC was apparently prepared to pay.
Ecclestone will come under fire for ditching his ‘own’ grand prix and one that has been part of the F1 calendar since the inception of the World Championship in 1950.
