 Doug Harvey - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Under coach Dick Irvin, Harvey was named to the All-Star team 11 consecutive times, beginning in the 1951-52 NHL season.
He made the jump to the Montreal Canadiens of the NHL in the 1947-48 NHL season with whom he remained until 1961.
McNeil was so crushed by the Harvey "goal," he retired to coach junior hockey the next season, but returned to the Habs in 1956 as back-up to Hall of Famer Jacques Plante.

Maurice "Rocket" Richard is suspended for the remainder of the season and the playoffs after punching a linesman during a fight.
Partway through the season, these rules were further amended to read, "No attacking player allowed to precede the play when entering the opposing defensive zone." This is similar to modern offside rule.

Just two days after the season was called off because of the protracted lockout, the announcement was made Friday that the NHL and the players' association scheduled a meeting in New York on Saturday at the request of the league.

It was first awarded following the 1947-48 NHL season.
The Art Ross Memorial Trophy is given to the National Hockey League player with the most points scored at the end of the regular season.
Should two or more players be tied, the player with the most goals is declared the trophy winner, and should it fail to reach a single winner, the player with the fewest games played and the player who scores the earliest goal are used as tiebreakers.

Ten days after the season finale, Capital GM Dick Miller acknowledged talk of forming a new Midwestern-based minor league in the Indianapolis Star, but said he was committed to keeping the Caps in the AHL.
It was fitting, given Reid had played three seasons in the Capital blue and white, scored 76 goals, tallied 205 points and was one of the team's most popular players during his tenure.
By 1951, the league stretched from Providence in the northeast to St. Louis in the southwest.
