To accommodate Grand Prix motor racing, the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps race course was built in 1921 but it was only used for motorcycle racing until 1924.
The first Belgian Grand Prix was won by Antonio Ascari whose son Alberto would win the race in 1952 and 1953.
There was no Belgian Grand Prix in 2003 because of the country's tobacco advertising laws but it returned to the schedule again in 2004.

The Argentine Grand Prix was a round of the Formula One championship, held intermittently from 1953 to 1998.
The Grand Prix remained in Argentina through 1981, its demise in 1982 brought on by the Falklands War and by Reutemann's retirement.
Unfortunately, with the organizers of the event running into financial difficulties, the 1998 race was the last running of the Argentine Grand Prix, the checkered flag waving victory to Michael Schumacher, in what was then only his ninth win for Ferrari.

On the Championship Grand Prix level, Connaughts 1953 season was less stunning but it was not for lack of trying as a Connaught of some kind or other competed in six of the seven European races that counted for the Championship.
In all then, 1953 was a busy season for Connaught with virtually all of its cars in action at all levels but unable to turn in points-paying performances in the Grands Prix, while being credible players in the non-Championship races.
But the only Grand Prix entered that year by Connaught was the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on July 17th 1954, when five of the A-Types, still powered by the Lea-Francis engines took to the grid.

One of the most striking dichotomies of the immediate post-war years is the amount of top-line Grand Prix events held in France as opposed to the poor support given to the French motor racing industry.
Wacker, pictured during his appearance in the 1953 Belgian GP, was an SCCA pioneer that had founded the Chicago Region in the late forties before becoming SCCA's national president.
In 1953 it was a different story because by now not only the Ferraris were back in strength but also the Maserati factory had decided to re-enter the Grand Prix scene and the Italian cars were overwhelmingly superior to everybody else.

During the late 1930s he won numerous minor Grand Prix races, securing himself the Italian Drivers' Champion three years in a row ( 1937 - 1939).
A notable character in early World Championship Grand Prix racing, Farina was noted for his driving style and intelligence, but also his petulant streak and his disregard for his fellow competitors on the race track.
The irony of his career is after all the injuries he sustained in the latter part of his career, it was in a car crash that he finally lost his life at Chambery in France, whilst driving to spectate at the 1966 French Grand Prix.
