In 1955, as several divergent streams of music, promotion, and business coalesced, rock'n'roll made its presence felt with several hits surging to the top of the pop, randb, and country and western charts.
1955 is the year that music historians nearly unanimously agree is the year in which rock'n'roll as a genre was born, or more appropriately, explodes, burst, and erupts onto the cultural landscape.
Appropriately, given the archetypal conbintion involved, rock'n'roll became an overnight sensation, the rock superstar is born, and music as an industry—through record sales, concert promotion, and radio play—is not only revitalized but irrevocably altered.

Popular Music and Society: "Here You Come Again": Country Music's Performance on the Pop Singles Charts from 1955 to 1996 - 1
The first possible explanation is that country music was simply pushed out of the musical mainstream by other forms of music that achieved overwhelming success, such as the "British Invasion," featuring the Beatles, the Dave Clark Five, the Rolling Stones, and numerous other bands consisting mostly of white males.
The racial aspects seem important again to country music, because white buyers were not only turning to other white-oriented sounds (such as the Beatles), they were also buying Motown music.
In addition, country music has been seen as traditionally white-male oriented; the "Rock and Roll Era" was the beginning of the Civil Rights Movement, but it had not hit its peak yet.
