  London Art - Yegorov Yuri
It is the pictorial space rather than the depicted space which is important to the artist, and it is these concerns which place Yegorov's oeuvre firmly in a modernist tradition stretching from impressionism and cubism to contemporary artists such as David Hockney and Lucian Freud.
Looking across the divide to a tradition that has been fragmented and suppressed by a totalitarian orthodoxy, it is all too easy to dismiss the results as reactionary in the most academic sense.
Yegorov is now 64 and, despite being a member of the Union of Artists since 1957, has retained an individual identity that is matched with the sound understanding of his craft.

artnet.com Magazine Features -- Art Market Guide 2002   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
The death of an artist is an ideal time to evaluate his place in art history, as well as his financial potential.
It's unfortunate, and probably a little unfair, that despite the significance he achieved as an artist who helped bridge the gap between the 1950s and the '60s, his market will ultimately be lost in all the excess of his late work.
The most probable scenario is that a few museums, scrambling to fill in their holdings of art from the 1950s, will emerge as buyers for any major paintings that come onto the market.

Jackson Pollock's industrial Expressionism Art Journal - Find Articles
In 1957 the art historian Meyer Schapiro suggested that the significance of avant-garde art lay in its positing of an alternative to the technological extremes of corporate capitalism, observing that, within the developmental logic of modernity, the realm of the historically fine arts of painting and sculpture was the last refuge from total instrumentality.
Pollock's art studies were uneven at best--most famously with Regionalist realist Thomas Hart Benton in the 1930s.
Their author was then a young instructor of composition at the Art Students League, some three years away from the commission that would make his reputation--his mural paintings at the New School for Social Research--and five years away from interaction with his most famous student.

Art Pepper's distinctive tone and style on the alto saxophone--warm, passionate, and rhythmically incisive--made him one of the premier players of the post-Bird generation, despite a well-publicized drug addiction.
Pepper's classic sides from the '50s are equalled by his triumphant return to form in the late '70s, when he became a symbol of triumph over adversity, playing with furious eloquence and a searingly emotional tone in quite diverse contexts.
Pepper's life story was memorably recounted in his candid autobiography and a subsequent film, Art Pepper: Notes From A Jazz Survivor, which offered a potent and harshly unsentimental lesson for any young musician contemplating the use of addictive drugs.
