In 1956, the Druid Hills Gymnastics team beat Georgia Tech's freshmen team.  In 1957, the football team went to the state championship, but was beaten by Valdosta High.  The quarterback of that team, Bobby Boylston, became a NFL referee.
Major sports of the 1970's were baseball, basketball, swimming, Volleyball, tennis, football, and wrestling.
Playing in the major leagues for 20 years, Valo was a.282 hitter with 58 home runs and 601 RBI in 1806 games, with most of his time spent as a member of the Philadelphia Athletics (1940-43, 1946-54).
