Formula One, or Grand Prix racing is the best known single-seater auto racing class, which involves an annual world championship.
In 1950, a world championship Formula One was established for drivers.
The sport is lesser-known in the United States than either their mostly-domestic open-wheeler racing series (at the moment there are two major ones, IRL and CART) or NASCAR, but in terms of budgets and global TV audiences F1 is bigger than all three.

Engine size had been reduced to 1.5 liters and two different V6 "Dino" engines were available from the previous year's Formula 2 efforts ­ one with a 60-degree vee angle and a newer one with a flatter 120 degree.

I have been interested in Formula One since 1977 and have watched all the races that have been broadcast on TV ever since.
I was a fan of his through thick and thin from his first full season in 1993, and was delighted when he became the 1996 World Champion.
I have followed Jacques Villeneuve since his first year in IndyCar in 1994, and it was great to see him become the 1997 Formula One World Champion.
