 I-J
In 1963 he finished joint 1st in the Sandover Medal voting, but, having incurred a suspension earlier in the season, was ruled ineligible.
In his debut season he was on a wing, opposed to Leo Merrett, when the Roys overcame Richmond in the grand final to secure their last ever premiership.
During that career he represented the VFL several times, including the 1924 Hobart carnival, and was perhaps unfortunate that the Brownlow Medal did not commence prior to 1924, as he was the sort of conspicuously energetic player who tends to attract votes.

Premierships in Ballarat Football League: 1946 (B-grade), 1948 (B-grade), 1963, 1970, 1973, 1978-79, 1982-86, 1991-92, 1994-96.
In 1952, when the North Ballarat footballers were trying to make an impression in its debut season in the Ballarat league, their plight wasn't helped by oval refurbishment that included top-dressing with soil that was basically rocks and gravel.
The Roosters fielded teams in both the VFL and the Ballarat league in 1996 before placing all their eggs in the VFL basket from 1997.

 Sturt
This was the last of Murphy's 204 games for Sturt in a career which began in 1962 and which also took in 5 interstate matches for South Australia and 4 seasons and 58 VFL matches with South Melbourne.
Sturt showed measurable improvement in 1963, winning 10 out of 20 matches for the season to finish 6th.
Football Club's position had never seemed so secure, but the next two decades were to demonstrate that no club can afford to rest on its laurels when it comes to maintaining a position of pre-eminence in the cut-throat world of Australian football.

 Nightcliff
The Works and Housing Football Club (re-named Nightcliff in 1963) joined the NTFL, which at that point operated a senior competition only, in the 1950/51 season.
Arguably Nightcliff's most famous playing export is Michael McLean who was an outstanding junior with the club and played 35 senior games before embarking on an auspicious VFL/AFL career with Footscray and Brisbane.
In 1964/65 the grand final victims were Darwin (previously known as Buffaloes), Nightcliff winning somewhat more comfortably this time by 39 points, 11.13 (79) to 5.10 (40).
