  Theology Today - Vol 21, No. 2 - July 1964 - EDITORIAL - Science, Theology, Unity
Because a special science is bound to its own field in that way, it will not allow another department of knowledge working in quite a different field to dictate to it on its own ground, either in prescribing its methods or in predetermining its results.
In the set of theological disciplines, dogmatics is "the pure science" in which we are concerned to penetrate down to the basic realities about which we must give an account and which we are compelled to think out in accordance with their own nature and the basic principles we derive from them.
If dogmatics is the positive science in which we bring to view the basic forms of theological thinking in accordance with which we are compelled to think, if we are to be faithful to the concrete act of God in Jesus Christ, then dogmatics properly pursued cannot but lead to agreement.

NESTA> What is Earth Science?   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
In establishing the foundations of Earth science education in the American education system, the development of science education was traced in several texts to the time science was formally introduced into schools through the National Education Association’s (NEA) Committee of Ten recommendations in 1894.
Science teaching at academies, however, was not always of high quality and often consisted of courses as short as six weeks, with inadequately prepared teachers and poor or non-existent textbooks (DeBoer, 1991 and Sizer, 1964).
Earth science was introduced as a special class for gifted students in New York as one of the first states along with Pennsylvania to adopt Earth science as part of the state curriculum.

This volume in the history of science clearly shows that outright conflict was the exception rather than the rule.
Science was indeed hailed as the defender of religion.
For example, their conviction that nature was lawgoverned was less a conclusion from science than a premise from Christianity.

That because of the importance of the Plant Science Bulletin as a means of effective communication between members of the Botanical Society of America, between the Society and its members, and between the Society and the scientific public at large, the Editor of the Bulletin be made a member of the Council of the Society.
Paul Kramer, President (1964) of the Botanical Society appointed the writer to chair a committee whose purpose would be to investigate possibilities of increasing the number of institutional subscribers.

Science, Strong Inference -- Proper Scientific Method
There is so much bad science and bad statistics information in media reports, publications, and shared between conversants that I think it is important to understand about facts and proofs and the associated pitfalls.
Tables of constraints have their place and value, but the study of one spectrum after another, if not frequently re-evaluated, may become a substitute for thinking, a sad waste of intelligence in a research laboratory, and a mistraining whose crippling effects may last a lifetime.
It is not true that all science is equal; or that we cannot justly compare the effectiveness of scientists by any method other than a mutual-recommendation system.
