  Monaco Grand Prix - WOI Encyclopedia Italia
The Monaco Grand Prix (Grand Prix de Monaco) is a Formula One race held on the streets of the Principality of Monaco.
The Monaco Grand Prix predates the organized World Championships; the Principality's first Grand Prix race was organized in 1929 by Antony Noghes, under the auspices of Prince Louis II through the "Automobile Club de Monaco" (A.C.M.) of which Alexandre Noghes was the founding president.
The Monaco Grand Prix counted toward the European Championship from 1936 to 1939 (although the race was cancelled in 1938).

Cyprus was a British colony from 1913 until 1960 when the island was granted independence after Greek and Turkish Cypriots agreed on a constitution, which excluded the possibility of partition, as well as of a union with Greece.
The problem for the FIA is that this is a clear case of a country using a Grand Prix for overt political ends, which have been denounced as illegal by the international community.

The 1965 Monte Carlo was a race, which I have always considered to be one of the best races I have ever run or ever won.
The race had been on for about 25 laps and I was in the lead when I came over the brow of a hill towards the chicane.
It was a tremendous race and I think that this, with the 1962 German Grand Prix, were probably my best races ever.

Formula 1 Grand Prix racing also went through this exercise when the FIA, shockingly, announced they were abandoning the 2½-liter engine formula in favor of a 1½-liter sized power plant, the same as in Formula 2, starting with the 1961 season.
They continuously developed their tread and more importantly aspect ratio, so that by the end of 1965, tires were well on their way to becoming low, wide slicks, enabling lap records to be lowered by considerable amounts despite the much smaller engines.

He won handily in 1963, and repeated in 1965, taking the maximum possible championship points in both seasons.
A small plaque — now located behind a protective Armco guardrail — is set in the forest to mark the spot of his tragic, and still unexplained, accident.
