Baseball is played by amateurs of all ages, including numerous sandlot clubs and athletic associations, virtually every high school and college in the U.S., and scores of junior leagues.
Most early variations of baseball were played on a square field, with stakes at the corners serving as stations and a striker’s box situated about midway between the first and fourth stations.
Much controversy surrounded baseball’s reserve clause, which bound a player to one team until the player retired or was traded; if a player’s contract expired, and no new agreement was reached, the clause allowed the team to renew the contract annually.

Ford Frick - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ford Christopher Frick (December 19, 1894 - April 8, 1978) was an American sportswriter and executive who served as president of the National League from 1934 to 1951 and as Baseball Commissioner from 1951 to 1965.
His most highly criticized decision as commissioner was to convince baseball record-keepers to list the single-season home run records of Babe Ruth and Roger Maris separately in 1961, based on the length of the season played.
Frick was himself elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame by the Veteran's Committee in 1970.

Baseball upset its permanence with a series of franchise moves in the 1950s, the first since the original Baltimore Orioles moved to New York to become known, eventually, as the Yankees, in 1903.
Baseball, which was once a refuge from the refuse of this world, has become yet another bastion of the leftist cultural elite.
Baseball caters today principally to large corporate interests, those who can buy season tickets in blocks and purchase the expensive luxury boxes (which involve a flat season rate and a per seat cost for every game, a rather expensive proposition, to be sure).

 Baseball Ballistic
The recent major league baseball season offered numerous examples of ballplayers who have been unable to control their anger and whose emotional outbursts included slamming bare fists into cement walls, busting up water coolers and toilet stalls with baseball bats, and throwing a chair into an unprotected grandstand.
From youth leagues to the big leagues, from living rooms to baseball stadiums across America, ballplayers and fans have turned good sportsmanship on its ear, with unbridled passions and frustrations exploding into antisocial and often violent behavior.
For the installation “Baseball Ballistic,” the Baseball Reliquary invited four artists to explore the nature of anger as it has been revealed through baseball.

One of baseball's real gentlemen and perhaps its only true revolutionary, Branch Rickey, as president of the Brooklyn Dodgers, made it his mission to change the game--and with it America--by obliterating the color line in 1947.
As it took an extraordinary man of will in Jackie Robinson to bear the on-the-field brunt of Rickey's daring, it took a man of equal resolve and courage to conceive and implement the plan in the first place.
This slim volume of epigrams and observations--on character, attitude, and baseball itself--compiled from his letters, notes, and personal papers is a treasure trove of good sense, keen insight, and, indeed, some genuine inspiration, a true reflection of the singular man who penned them.
